The Abode Hotel, Murrumbateman NSW

Updated: 2 days ago

The beautiful town of Murrumbateman is located only half an hour from Canberra (and about 3 hours from Sydney) and is a lovely spot to spend a few days soaking up the fresh country air!

We stayed at the Abode Hotel Murrumbateman and absolutely loved it. We have previously stayed at Abode Hotel Belconnen (which you can read about here) so we were very excited to try another of their properties.

The hotel is on the edge of town overlooking a beautiful farm, but as Murrumbateman is so small, it is an easy walk to get to the centre where there’s a pub and small supermarket.

Murrumbateman is renowned for its wineries, and a visit to some of the local vineyards is a must. You can read all about our favourite family-friendly wineries and other activities here.

Rooms

There are 50 rooms in the hotel, ranging in size from a Queen room (with one queen sized bed) to their Premium Terrace room (which we stayed in, with two queen sized beds, see a tour here).

They also have accessible rooms with one queen and one single bed.

Rooms have a bathroom with lovely “Ink & Water” toiletries, as well as smart TVs, Wi-Fi and reverse cycle air conditioning.

The terrace rooms have a little outdoor sitting area, with a table and two chairs, which was perfect to sit and watch the sunset while enjoying some wine we had purchased from one of the vineyards.

Kitchen and Pantry

One of the features that we loved was the communal kitchen. As there is not much choice for dinner in town (one pub and one small take away joint) we were happy to find that there is a fully equipped kitchen and dining room (including highchairs) available for guests to use.

The rooms have a fridge, toaster, cutlery, crockery, and a kettle, but it was nice to have access to a proper kitchen.

They also have a pantry where you can buy supplies that you need, including frozen meals and daily essentials, and you can help yourself to additional tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and milk from the cupboard next to reception.

Bike hire

You are able to hire bikes and helmets from reception for $5.

The hotel has put together a bike map here, which features three routes to different wineries.

They didn’t have kids’ bikes, so worth bringing them if you want a family bike ride.

Laundry

The hotel has shared laundry facilities available for guest use, with washing powder sachets available for purchase from reception.

Dining options nearby

Directly across from the front of the hotel is a grassy area – if you walk through there (literally 2 mins walk) you will find a small group of shops, which includes the most incredible bakery and café!

Clementine bakery has a great selection of breads, pastries, pies etc and everything is made in small batches and by hand, using local ingredients and seasonal produce wherever possible. We tried a few different things from them and all were delicious!

They are open:

Thursday and Friday 7am - 2pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am - 2pm

Two Before 10 café is right across from the bakery, and you can get bakery food from Clementine to eat in the café! They have fantastic coffee and a nice menu of breakfast and lunch food.

They are open:

Monday to Friday 7:30am - 3pm, Saturday & Sunday 8am - 2pm

Murrumbateman Country Inn is the pub in town. It’s a pretty standard country pub, with a bistro out the back. It is less than ten minutes’ walk from the hotel, but if you prefer they have a courtesy bus that can pick you up and drop you off.

It does get busy, so I recommend that you reserve a table, especially on weekends - 02 6227 5802.

They have a kids menu for $15 with your usual suspects of chicken nuggets, fish and chips, burger, spag bol, and we were impressed with the quality and size of the food.

They are open 7 days:

Lunch: 12pm to 2:30pm, Dinner: 5:30pm to 8:30pm

The Murrumbateman Village Market runs every fortnight on a Saturday from 9am until 1pm, and is a perfect spot to get breakfast, lunch and food supplies.

They have lots of different stalls, and when we were there, they also had alpacas to pat and a band playing. In terms of food, there are bakery stalls, a BBQ selling bacon and egg sandwiches etc, a guy making fresh crepes, as well as a couple of different coffee options.

It is a ten-minute walk from the hotel, or there is parking available if you’d rather drive.

______

We really loved our time in this little town, and the Abode Hotel really was the perfect place to stay for a family getaway to the country. It was a great base to enjoy the amazing food and local wines of this beautiful area, and we definitely recommend adding it to the top of your list!

The hotel rates are very reasonable, but they often have great specials on so make sure you check their website. Although Abode Hotels hosted our stay, this blog is an honest account of our experience - we highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a great stay in the Murrumbateman region!
